PGA West's Fall Overseed Leaves Greg Norman as the Only Open Resort Course for One Week

PGA West doesn't close all at once for fall overseeding. It closes its five resort courses one after another, and for one week in October only one of them is open. From October 19 through October 25, Greg Norman is the only resort course taking play. Dunes, Nicklaus Tournament, Stadium and Mountain are all closed for overseed.

As of today, October 5, the schedule is already running. Pete Dye Dunes closed September 28. Nicklaus Tournament closes today, and the Pete Dye Practice Facility closes with it. The next two months follow a fixed order, and the restaurants keep to it too.

How the Closures Line Up Week by Week

PGA West's published 2026 Fall Overseed Schedule lists each course separately. The table below combines those listings into one weekly view.

Week of Resort courses open Resort courses closed
Oct 5 Stadium, Mountain, Greg Norman Dunes, Nicklaus Tournament
Oct 12 Mountain, Greg Norman Dunes, Nicklaus Tournament, Stadium
Oct 19 Greg Norman Dunes, Nicklaus Tournament, Stadium, Mountain
Oct 26 Greg Norman, Dunes on cart paths Nicklaus Tournament, Stadium, Mountain
Nov 2 Greg Norman, Dunes and Nicklaus Tournament on cart paths Stadium, Mountain
Nov 9 Dunes, Nicklaus Tournament and Stadium, all on cart paths Mountain, Greg Norman
Nov 16 Dunes, Nicklaus Tournament, Stadium, Mountain Greg Norman
Dec 7 All five, with Greg Norman on cart paths None

Greg Norman stays open through the entire first half of the rotation and then takes its own break last. It closes November 9 and reopens December 7. Stadium reopens on November 9, the same day Greg Norman closes.

If you want to play with guests in October, the dates line up as follows. Stadium is open until October 11 and Mountain until October 18. After that, you're booking Greg Norman until Dunes comes back on October 26.

Reopened Courses Stay on Cart Paths for Weeks

A course that reopens is still under restrictions. Each one stays cart-path-only for about three weeks after it reopens.

  • Pete Dye Dunes: cart paths only October 26 through November 15
  • Nicklaus Tournament: cart paths only November 2 through November 22
  • Pete Dye Stadium: cart paths only November 9 through November 29
  • Pete Dye Mountain: cart paths only November 16 through December 6
  • Greg Norman: cart paths only December 7 through December 27

Put those dates next to the closures and one week stands out. From November 9 through November 15, every open resort course is on cart paths only. Greg Norman has just closed, Mountain hasn't reopened, and Dunes, Nicklaus Tournament and Stadium are all in their first weeks back. On a cart-path-only day you walk more between shots, which matters if you're hosting golfers who prefer to drive up to the ball.

Restrictions don't end on any of the resort courses until December 27, when Greg Norman's cart-path period is over. For practical purposes, the overseed season runs from late September to the last week of the year.

The Practice Ranges Close Earlier and Reopen Sooner

Practice facilities have their own dates, which don't exactly match the courses next to them.

The Pete Dye Practice Facility closed today and reopens November 1. The Tournament Practice Facility closes October 9 and reopens November 2, the same day as the Nicklaus Tournament course. The Greg Norman Practice Facility is on the course's schedule and closes November 9.

That means the Greg Norman range is the only one of the three open between October 9 and November 1. If you can't wait that long, The Bunker Bar in the Pete Dye Clubhouse has two Trackman 4 simulators off the bar, and you can book indoor Trackman time through PGA West's tee-time system.

The Restaurants Follow the Same Rotation

PGA West has three public clubhouse restaurants, and each one sits next to a different part of the schedule. All three are open to non-members.

Ernie's Bar & Grill is in the Tournament Clubhouse at 56-150 PGA Boulevard and overlooks the Nicklaus Tournament course. Its normal hours are breakfast daily from 7 to 11 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the bar from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. From October 12 through November 2, it switches to an overseed schedule. On weekdays it serves lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with no weekday breakfast. On Saturdays and Sundays it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The overseed hours start the day Stadium closes and end the day Nicklaus Tournament reopens, so Ernie's is on reduced hours while both courses it overlooks are closed. The City of La Quinta named Ernie's its 2025 Restaurant of the Year at the State of the City awards. The Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce also lists the award from that event.

Wallaby's West is in the Greg Norman Clubhouse at 81-405 Kingston Heath. Guests tell the Greg Norman gate that they're going to Wallaby's West. On weekdays, Monday through Thursday, breakfast is grab-and-go from 7 to 11 a.m. Friday through Sunday, breakfast is dine-in over the same hours. Lunch runs daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Greg Norman is the only resort course open the week of October 19, so this is the clubhouse kitchen beside the only active first tee that week. PGA West says Wallaby's holds happy hours, themed dining nights and wine dinners throughout the year, and its sunken patio has flagstone fireplaces. It hasn't posted dates for fall 2026.

The Bunker Bar is in the Pete Dye Clubhouse at 50-200 Avenida Vista Bonita, overlooking the Mountain and Dunes courses. Guests give its name at the Santa Rosa Cove gates. It's open daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and has posted fall 2026 breakfast and lunch menus. Both courses outside its windows are closed from October 19 to 25. The simulators are still running.

Restaurant Clubhouse Address or gate Fall 2026 hours
Ernie's Bar & Grill Tournament 56-150 PGA Blvd Weekdays 11 a.m.–8 p.m., weekends 7 a.m.–8 p.m. from Oct 12 to Nov 2
Wallaby's West Greg Norman Greg Norman gates Breakfast 7–11 a.m., lunch 11 a.m.–3 p.m.
The Bunker Bar Pete Dye Santa Rosa Cove gates Daily 6 a.m.–5 p.m.

All three restaurants have published hours that can change during the season, so call before you go: Ernie's at 760-564-7125, Wallaby's at 760-564-3905 and The Bunker Bar at 760-564-7636.

The Private Courses Aren't on the Public Schedule

PGA West has four private courses in addition to the five resort courses: Pete Dye Citrus, Nicklaus Private, Weiskopf Private and Palmer Private. PGA West lists Stadium with the resort courses.

The public overseed page covers only the resort courses and practice facilities. PGA West hasn't posted overseed dates for the private courses or any fall changes to private clubhouse hours. Members should get those dates from the club itself rather than from the resort table above.

January Brings the Tournament Courses Back on Display

The first two resort courses to close in October will host The American Express in January. The 2027 tournament runs January 18 through 24. NBC Palm Springs reported in March that the event will again use the Pete Dye Stadium and Nicklaus Tournament courses at PGA West, along with La Quinta Country Club.

General-admission tickets give grounds access from January 21 through 24 at Stadium, Nicklaus Tournament and La Quinta Country Club, and AXS sells them. Tournament week also has ticketed hospitality options:

  1. Stadium Clubhouse: indoor seating and restrooms, premium food and drinks for purchase, and two complimentary drink tickets
  2. Pete's Place: a venue at the Stadium Course's 18th tee, with beer, wine and light bites included
  3. Champions Club: includes concert viewing on Friday, January 22, and Saturday, January 23. The ticket page doesn't name the performers.

Eligible American Express cardmembers get a 20% ticket discount, subject to the terms posted with the offer. The Tournament Clubhouse, which houses Ernie's, is a well-known viewing spot during the event.
